Largemouth Bass

Buffalo Grove isn't necessarily a bass fishing mecca, but there are still opportunities to hook into largemouth if you know where to look. Local ponds and smaller lakes are your best bet. Many of the community parks in the area have ponds that are stocked or naturally hold bass. Busse Woods (Ned Brown Preserve) is a popular choice, offering several connected lakes with decent bass populations. Spring and fall are the most productive seasons. During the spawn, target shallow, protected areas with visible beds. In the fall, focus on areas near drop-offs and submerged vegetation. A Texas-rigged worm or a spinnerbait are reliable choices. Don't overlook topwater lures early in the morning or late in the evening. Access to some of these areas may be limited to shoreline fishing only, so check local regulations beforehand. Also, these are pressured fisheries, so finesse techniques can be highly effective.
