Largemouth Bass

While Deerfield itself might not be the first place that comes to mind for trophy largemouth, don't overlook the opportunities in the surrounding areas. Focus on smaller lakes and ponds in Lake County. These often hold surprisingly good populations of bass, and due to their size, they can be easier to fish effectively. Spring and fall are the best times to target largemouth here. During the spring spawn, look for shallow, protected areas with vegetation. In the fall, bass will be actively feeding as they prepare for winter. Topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits can be effective in the fall. A local tip: many of these smaller bodies of water are accessible by foot or kayak, providing a stealthy approach. Be aware that many lakes have restrictions on motorboat size, so check local regulations before heading out.
