Largemouth Bass

Durand, Illinois, may be a small town, but it offers some decent largemouth bass fishing if you know where to look. Pierce Lake, just a short drive away in Rock Cut State Park, is a popular destination. This lake has a healthy population of largemouth, offering a mix of shallow weedy areas and deeper structure that hold fish throughout the season. Spring and fall are typically the most productive times. Focus on the weed edges with spinnerbaits or crankbaits during warmer months. Later in the year, try jigs and slower presentations around deeper structure. A local tip: the northern end of the lake, near the inlet, often holds good numbers of fish. There's a boat ramp available, but be prepared for some competition, especially on weekends. The largemouth here aren't monsters, but you can expect to find some solid 2-4 pounders with persistence.
