Don't let Golf, Illinois' name fool you; you can find some decent Largemouth Bass fishing in the area's smaller lakes and ponds. While there aren't any major waterways, the Skokie Lagoons, a short drive away, offer a good option. Spring and fall are the best times to target bass, as they are more active during the spawn (spring) and when feeding up for winter (fall). Summer can be productive too, especially during early morning or late evening hours. Try fishing weedlines, docks, and other structure with lures like crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or plastic worms. For the Skokie Lagoons, boat access is limited, so shore fishing is common. Be mindful of the regulations and catch-and-release practices to help maintain the fishery. A local tip is to pay attention to water clarity and adjust your lure colors accordingly. Clearer water often calls for more natural colors, while stained water may require brighter colors.
