Largemouth Bass

Hebron, Illinois, offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing in its small lakes and ponds, as well as the nearby Nippersink Creek. While not a trophy bass destination, it's a great place to hone your skills and enjoy a relaxing day on the water. Spring and fall are prime times, as the bass are actively feeding in shallower water. Look for them around weed beds, fallen timber, and docks. A local tip: many of the smaller ponds are best accessed by foot, so pack light and be prepared to walk. Early mornings and late evenings are particularly productive. The bass in these smaller waters tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures like crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and plastic worms can be effective. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the health of the local bass population.
