Largemouth Bass

Kildeer, Illinois, while not directly on a major bass fishery, offers excellent largemouth opportunities in its surrounding lakes, ponds, and forest preserve waters. These smaller bodies of water often concentrate bass, making for exciting fishing. Spring (pre-spawn and spawn) and fall are prime times. As the water warms in spring, look for bass staging near shallow cover, especially around weed edges and submerged timber. Fall sees bass actively feeding to bulk up for winter. A local tip: Many of the smaller ponds are accessible only by foot, so pack light and be prepared to explore. Check local forest preserve regulations for access and permit requirements. The bass in these smaller waters can be surprisingly hefty, but they can also be pressured, so vary your presentations and don't be afraid to experiment with different lures and techniques. Consider using weedless presentations due to the abundant vegetation.
