Largemouth Bass

Despite being close to Chicago, you can find some surprisingly decent largemouth bass fishing near Morton Grove, Illinois. The Skokie Lagoons are a great starting point. These interconnected lagoons offer a variety of habitat, including weed beds, lily pads, and submerged timber, all prime locations for largemouth. Summer evenings and early mornings are particularly productive, as the bass move into shallower water to feed. A local tip: using weedless lures, such as Texas-rigged worms or frogs, is essential due to the heavy vegetation. Also, pay attention to water clarity, as the lagoons can become murky after heavy rains. The largemouth here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different lure presentations to find what they're biting on. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain a healthy bass population in these urban waters.
