Largemouth Bass

Oswego, Illinois, offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, especially in the local ponds, small lakes, and the calmer stretches of the Fox River. What makes Oswego unique is the blend of suburban and rural environments; you might be fishing next to a park one minute and a cornfield the next. Spring (pre-spawn) and fall are prime times. As the water warms in spring, target shallow, weedy areas with spinnerbaits or crankbaits. In the fall, bass will be aggressively feeding to fatten up for winter, so try topwater lures or jigs near structure. A local tip: Many of the smaller ponds are accessible from public parks, but be respectful of private property. Also, the Fox River can have strong currents after heavy rain, so check conditions before heading out. Oswego bass tend to be average in size, but the chance for a real lunker is always there!
