Largemouth Bass

Looking for largemouth bass around Peoria? The backwaters and sloughs off the Illinois River provide excellent habitat for these fish. Banner Marsh State Fish and Wildlife Area, just southwest of Peoria, is a particularly good option. Largemouth bass fishing peaks in the spring during the spawn and again in the fall as they fatten up for winter. During the summer, target deeper water and shaded areas to find cooler temperatures. Local anglers often have success with spinnerbaits, plastic worms, and crankbaits. Be mindful of the often-muddy water clarity. Using lures with rattles or bright colors can help bass locate your bait. Remember that boat access is best in many of these areas, so consider launching from one of the public ramps along the river.
