Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass fishing near Wilmette centers around several smaller inland lakes and lagoons, offering a more intimate angling experience than the vastness of Lake Michigan. While Lake Michigan itself can hold bass, the harbors and sheltered areas are more productive. Skokie Lagoons, part of the Cook County Forest Preserves, are a prime example. Spring and early summer are excellent times to target bass as they move into shallower waters to spawn. Look for weed beds, lily pads, and submerged timber. Plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are local favorites. Be aware that some areas may have restrictions on boat size or motor type, so check regulations before heading out. Shore fishing is readily available in many spots, making it accessible even without a boat. A key tip is to focus on areas with structure and varying depths.
