Largemouth Bass

Yorkville, Illinois, offers surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, primarily in the Fox River and its connected backwaters. The river's structure, with its rocky bottoms, submerged timber, and weed beds, provides excellent habitat for bass. Spring and fall are prime times. During the spring pre-spawn, focus on the warming backwaters and feeder creeks with crankbaits and spinnerbaits. As the water warms, move to deeper structure with jigs and Texas-rigged worms. Fall sees bass actively feeding before winter, so target areas near structure with topwater lures and crankbaits. A key to success on the Fox River is understanding water levels; high water can spread the bass out, while low water concentrates them in deeper pools. Public access is available at several parks along the river, but be prepared for some bank fishing as boat access can be limited in certain areas.
