Largemouth Bass

For largemouth bass anglers heading to Courtland, Kansas, Lovewell Reservoir is the place to be. This large reservoir offers a variety of habitat, from submerged timber and rocky points to weed beds and shallow coves. Spring and fall are the most productive times, as the bass move shallow to spawn or feed aggressively before winter. During the summer, focus on deeper water near structure. Texas-rigged worms, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are all effective lures. The upper end of the reservoir, where the Republican River enters, can be particularly good. Be aware of wind conditions, as Lovewell can get choppy, and always check the lake level before you go, as it can fluctuate. There are multiple boat ramps around the reservoir, providing good access.
