Largemouth Bass

Hickory Hill, Kentucky, is a great base for pursuing largemouth bass in the many smaller lakes and ponds scattered throughout the region. While the area may lack a single, massive reservoir, the abundance of smaller, often overlooked waters provides a unique opportunity for anglers. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, with bass actively feeding in preparation for spawning or winter. During the spring, focus on shallow, weedy areas as the bass move in to spawn. Soft plastics, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are all effective choices. As the water warms in the summer, try fishing deeper structure with Carolina rigs or Texas rigs. A local tip: many of these smaller lakes have limited access, so be sure to scout out public access points or obtain permission from landowners before fishing. Largemouth in these waters are known for their aggressive strikes, and you might even find some hidden trophy bass if you explore the less pressured spots.
