Largemouth Bass

Abita Springs, Louisiana, might be better known for its brewery, but it also offers some decent largemouth bass fishing in the surrounding waterways. The rivers and bayous around Abita Springs, fed by the nearby swamps, are where you'll want to focus your efforts. Spring is an excellent time to fish, as the bass are spawning. Look for them in shallow, vegetated areas. Summer can also be productive, but you'll want to fish early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid the heat. A practical tip: use weedless lures, such as Texas-rigged worms or spinnerbaits, as the waters are often thick with vegetation. There are several launch points along the Bogue Falaya River, offering access to these productive fishing grounds. Be prepared for a slower pace of fishing compared to larger lakes, but the scenery and tranquility make it worthwhile. The bass here tend to be smaller on average, but still offer plenty of fun.
