Largemouth Bass

Loch Lynn Heights, nestled in the western Maryland mountains, provides a cool, clear environment for largemouth bass fishing that's different from the tidal fisheries of the Chesapeake Bay. The Youghiogheny River Lake, or 'the Yock' as it's known locally, is the centerpiece. This deep, relatively clear lake offers a unique challenge. Largemouth bass here tend to be structure-oriented, so focus your efforts on submerged timber, rocky points, and weed edges. Spring and fall are the best times to fish, as the bass are more active in cooler water temperatures. A local tip is to use a fish finder to locate submerged structure, as much of it is hidden in the deeper sections of the lake. Numerous boat ramps provide access to the lake, but be aware that the water level can fluctuate depending on rainfall. The largemouth in the Youghiogheny Reservoir can be a bit more challenging to catch than in some other Maryland lakes, but the reward is a chance at a truly memorable fish in a beautiful mountain setting.
