Crystal Lake and Lake Wampanoag are popular choices, but don't overlook smaller, less-pressured waters. These lakes often have healthy populations of bass that haven't seen as many lures. Look for classic bass structure such as weed beds, submerged timber, and drop-offs. The best time to target largemouth bass in Gardner is from late spring through fall. The spawn typically occurs in May or June, and the fish are aggressive both before and after. Topwater lures can be particularly effective during the warmer months. As the water cools in the fall, switch to slower presentations like jigs and crankbaits. Local tip: Many of the lakes have limited public access, so be sure to research access points and parking before you go.
