Largemouth Bass
Arlington, Minnesota, offers some excellent Largemouth Bass fishing in the numerous lakes and backwaters associated with the Rush River and its tributaries. These waters, characterized by their shallow, weedy bays and abundant cover, provide ideal habitat for Largemouth to ambush prey. The best time to target these bass is from late spring through early fall. During the spawn (late May/early June), focus on shallow, protected bays with visible nests. As the water warms, move to deeper weed lines and submerged structure. Squarebill crankbaits and Texas-rigged worms are local favorites. A good public access point is on Clear Lake, just north of Arlington. It features a boat ramp and plenty of shoreline access for bank fishing. Be mindful of the thick vegetation, which can make navigating with a boat challenging, but also provides excellent cover for the bass. The Largemouth population here is healthy, with opportunities to catch fish in the 2-4 pound range, and the occasional lunker exceeding 5 pounds.
