Elmdale, Minnesota, offers some under-the-radar largemouth bass fishing opportunities. While it might not be a trophy bass destination, the smaller lakes and ponds in the area hold respectable populations of largemouth. Look to the Sauk River chain of lakes for your best chance at landing a few. Spring and early summer are excellent times to target bass as they move shallow to spawn. Topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics worked around docks, lily pads, and other vegetation can be highly effective. As summer progresses, focus on deeper water near structure. Flipping jigs or Texas-rigged worms into weed edges or around submerged timber can produce results. A good local tip is to explore the smaller, less-pressured lakes that aren't as well-known. A canoe or kayak can be beneficial for accessing these smaller bodies of water. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the quality of the fishery.
