Largemouth Bass

If you're looking for some excellent largemouth bass fishing in the Mississippi Delta, Cleveland offers a variety of options. The numerous oxbow lakes and bayous branching off the Mississippi River, like Lake Washington and Beulah Lake, provide prime habitat. These waters are rich in vegetation and offer plenty of cover for bass. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, as the bass are most active during these times, either spawning or bulking up for winter. A local tip: pay attention to water levels. A slight rise in water level can flood new cover and trigger a feeding frenzy. Many areas are accessible by boat, with public ramps available at most of the larger lakes. The bass here tend to be chunky, owing to the fertile waters, and you have a good chance of landing a trophy. Be sure to pack your favorite weedless lures, as you'll be fishing in heavy cover. Don't overlook topwater frogs and buzzbaits early and late in the day.
