Largemouth Bass

Osyka, Mississippi, offers some excellent largemouth bass fishing, especially if you know where to look. The Tangipahoa River and its associated creeks and oxbows are the lifeblood of bass fishing here. This area isn't heavily pressured, so you have a good chance of finding some quality fish. Spring is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn in the weedy backwaters. Fall can also be productive as they feed up for the winter. For bank access, try the areas around the bridges crossing the Tangipahoa. If you have a small boat or kayak, you can launch from several unimproved access points along the river; just be mindful of water levels, as it can fluctuate quickly after rainfall. Local bass tend to be ambush predators, so focus on structure like fallen trees, submerged vegetation, and creek mouths. Don't be afraid to throw topwater lures early and late in the day for explosive strikes.
