Largemouth Bass

While Jemez Springs, New Mexico, is better known for its trout streams, you can still find largemouth bass opportunities in some of the nearby reservoirs and lakes. These aren't trophy bass waters, but the scenic beauty and relatively light fishing pressure can make for a rewarding experience. The best time to target largemouth bass here is during the warmer months, particularly spring and early summer when they're actively spawning and feeding. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation, rocky points, and any other structure that provides cover. Plastic worms, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are all effective lures. Be aware that water levels can fluctuate significantly, impacting fish behavior and access to certain areas. A practical tip: scout out the water body beforehand to identify potential fishing spots and check current conditions. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the bass population.
