Largemouth Bass

If you're chasing largemouth bass near Conover, Lake Norman is the place to be. This massive impoundment on the Catawba River offers a diverse habitat, from shallow coves to deep, clear water. Spring and fall are the prime times, with the pre-spawn and post-spawn periods offering excellent fishing opportunities. During the summer, focus on deeper structure and early morning topwater action. Bass are often found around docks, brush piles, and submerged timber. Several public boat ramps provide access to the lake, including those at Stumpy Creek and Lake Norman State Park. A local tip: Carolina-rigged plastics or crankbaits worked slowly along drop-offs can be very productive. Lake Norman bass can be pressured, so experiment with different presentations and lure colors.
