Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass anglers in the West Fargo area have several options for chasing their quarry. While the Red River itself isn't known for its bass fishing, the surrounding lakes and sloughs offer good opportunities. Look to smaller, more secluded bodies of water like Brewer Lake or some of the numerous unnamed sloughs and ponds dotting the landscape. These smaller waters often hold surprisingly good bass populations. The best time to target largemouth in this region is during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall. The spawn in late May/early June is a particularly productive time, as bass are aggressive and actively guarding their nests. Topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics are all effective choices. A key tip for West Fargo bass fishing is to focus on structure. Look for submerged vegetation, fallen trees, and docks – these are all likely ambush points for bass. Also, be aware of aquatic vegetation growth, which can become quite thick during the summer months. This can make fishing challenging, but it also provides excellent cover for bass. Don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques and presentations to find what the fish are responding to on any given day.
