Lakewood, Ohio, offers surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, despite its urban setting. Your best bet is to focus on the nearshore waters of Lake Erie. While not known as a largemouth mecca, the breakwalls and harbors along the Lakewood coastline provide structure that attracts these fish. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, as the bass move in and out of these areas to feed. During the summer, try fishing deeper weedlines and drop-offs. Topwater lures, crankbaits, and soft plastics are all effective. A key to success in Lakewood is understanding the water clarity. Lake Erie can be murky, so choose lures with high visibility or strong vibrations. Access is readily available at several parks along the lakefront, including Lakewood Park and Edgewater Park. Be aware of potential wave action, especially during windy conditions.
