Timberlake, Ohio, offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, especially if you know where to look. While not a trophy bass destination, the smaller lakes and ponds scattered around the area, particularly those associated with the Chagrin River watershed, hold healthy populations of bass. Spring is prime time, as the bass move into the shallows to spawn. Target areas with submerged vegetation or fallen timber. Fall can also be productive as the bass feed aggressively before winter. A local tip: many of these smaller bodies of water are accessible only via public parks or require permission from landowners. Do your research ahead of time. Also, be aware that the water clarity can vary greatly depending on recent rainfall. A good starting point is exploring the ponds within the local Metroparks system; they often have established trails and access points. Don't overlook using weedless lures, as vegetation can be dense in the warmer months.
