Largemouth Bass

Coalgate, Oklahoma, provides a classic southern Oklahoma setting for chasing largemouth bass. Small, local lakes and ponds are the heart of the bass fishing here. While you won't find any massive reservoirs, the intimate scale of these waters allows for focused fishing. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target bass, as they move shallow to spawn. Look for bedding areas in the backs of coves and around any available structure. Summer can still be productive, especially during early morning and late evening hours, using topwater lures or working deeper structure with plastics. In the fall, as the water cools, bass become more active again. Remember that many of these smaller lakes and ponds are privately owned, so always seek permission before fishing.
