Largemouth Bass

Pittsburg, Oklahoma, is a fantastic location to target Largemouth Bass, offering a variety of freshwater habitats. Lake Eufaula, one of the largest lakes in Oklahoma, is a short drive away and provides ample opportunities for trophy bass. However, smaller lakes and ponds closer to Pittsburg, like those within the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (check access regulations), can also produce quality fish. Spring and fall are prime times for bass fishing here, as the fish are actively feeding and staging for spawn or preparing for winter. During the spawn, target shallow coves and areas with vegetation. In the fall, focus on points and ledges as the bass move deeper. Local tip: Spinnerbaits and crankbaits are effective lures in the stained waters of many Pittsburg area lakes. Pay attention to the wind direction, as bass often congregate on the windward side of the lake. The bass in this area are known for their aggressive strikes, making for exciting fishing.
