Largemouth Bass

While Willamina, Oregon, isn't necessarily a renowned bass fishing destination, there are still opportunities to hook into Largemouth Bass in nearby lakes and ponds. Small, lesser-known lakes in the surrounding countryside are your best bet. These often receive less fishing pressure, allowing the bass to grow larger and become more receptive to lures. Spring, during the pre-spawn and spawn, is arguably the best time to target Largemouth. Focus on shallow, weedy areas where bass are likely to be bedding. Soft plastics, such as worms and creature baits, are particularly effective. Summer evenings can also be productive, as the bass move into shallower water to feed. Due to the smaller size and relative obscurity of most of these water bodies, bank fishing is typically the primary method. Do your research and look for publicly accessible lakes on maps; some may require a short hike to reach, but the reward can be worth the effort. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the bass population.
