Largemouth Bass

While Avis might be a smaller town, it's close to some fantastic largemouth bass fishing spots in central Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna River, with its back channels and eddies, provides excellent habitat. Foster Joseph Sayers Lake at Bald Eagle State Park is also within a reasonable driving distance and offers a larger reservoir experience. Spring and fall are the prime seasons, with bass actively feeding as water temperatures become more favorable. Look for rocky shorelines, submerged timber, and weed beds – typical bass ambush points. A local tip for the Susquehanna: focus on areas where smaller streams enter the river, as these often hold baitfish and, consequently, bass. For Sayers Lake, the shallower coves can be very productive, especially during the spawn. The bass in these waters are known for their aggressive strikes, so be ready for a good fight!
