Largemouth Bass

While not immediately adjacent to Danville, Pennsylvania, several excellent largemouth bass fishing locations are within a reasonable driving distance. Lake Chillisquaque, also known as Lake Augusta, formed by the Susquehanna River, is a popular choice. Also, smaller ponds and lakes dot the landscape and can hold surprising numbers of largemouth. Spring and fall are the prime times to target largemouth, as they move into shallower water to spawn and feed before winter. Look for bass around submerged vegetation, docks, and fallen timber. Flipping jigs and Texas-rigged worms into heavy cover is a classic technique. A local tip: Pay attention to the Susquehanna River's flow rate; high water can make fishing difficult. Also, consider using a weedless presentation to avoid getting snagged in the abundant vegetation. Largemouth bass in this region tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different lures and presentations to find what works best on a given day.
