Largemouth Bass

While Emporium isn't necessarily known as a largemouth bass mecca, anglers can find some decent fishing in the area's smaller lakes and ponds. Look to the impoundments and slower sections of the Driftwood Branch of the Sinnemahoning Creek. Spring and early summer, when the bass are spawning and actively feeding, are generally the best times to target them. Surface lures, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics worked around submerged structure and weed beds can be effective. Local tip: ask around about smaller, lesser-known ponds on state game lands; these can often hold surprisingly good populations of largemouth. Remember that water levels can vary, especially in smaller impoundments, so be prepared to adjust your tactics accordingly. Largemouth bass in this region tend to be opportunistic feeders, so don't be afraid to experiment with different presentations.
