Largemouth Bass

Huntland, Tennessee, provides access to some excellent largemouth bass fishing in southern Middle Tennessee. While not a major tourist destination, the area is dotted with smaller lakes, ponds, and sections of the Elk River that hold good populations of bass. Spring is the undisputed prime time, with pre-spawn and spawning activity concentrated in the shallows. Look for bass bedding in protected coves and near vegetation. Summer can be slower, but early morning and late evening topwater fishing can be rewarding. Fall brings another feeding frenzy as bass prepare for winter. A local's secret is to target the Elk River near Huntland using crankbaits and spinnerbaits around submerged timber and rocky points. Many of the smaller lakes are accessible from the bank, while the Elk River offers both bank and boat access. The bass in this region are typically healthy and aggressive, making for some exciting fishing. Be mindful of water levels, especially in the Elk River, as they can fluctuate depending on rainfall and dam releases.
