Northern Pike

Northern Pike are not native to central Ohio, and opportunities to catch them near Marengo are limited. However, some pike have been stocked in larger reservoirs like Alum Creek Lake, offering a chance encounter. These pike are typically ambush predators, so focus on areas with dense vegetation, submerged timber, and creek channels. Large spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and swimbaits are good lure choices. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target pike, as they are more active in cooler water temperatures. Pike in this region are not abundant, so don't expect to catch large numbers. If you do hook one, handle it carefully as they have sharp teeth. Consider using a wire leader to prevent bite-offs. Success often depends on putting in the time and covering a lot of water.
