Rainbow Trout

Rainbow trout fishing near Grover, Colorado, requires a bit of exploration. While Grover itself isn't known for abundant trout streams, venturing a short distance to higher elevations reveals opportunities. Look for smaller creeks and streams that feed into the larger reservoirs in the area. Spring and early summer, after the snowmelt, and again in the fall are excellent times to target rainbows. The trout in these smaller streams can be quite opportunistic, readily taking dry flies, nymphs, and small spinners. A local tip is to use light tackle and fluorocarbon leaders, as the water can be very clear. Access to these streams can sometimes involve hiking, so be prepared for some walking. Also, be mindful of private property and obtain necessary permits or licenses. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the trout population in these delicate ecosystems.
