Looking to hook some rainbows in central Minnesota? New Germany offers a few smaller lakes and streams that are stocked with rainbow trout, providing a more intimate and accessible fishing experience than some of the larger, more well-known trout destinations. While not a trophy fishery, it's perfect for a quick trip or introducing someone to trout fishing. Spring and fall are the prime times to target these stocked rainbows, as the water temperatures are cooler and the fish are more active. Early mornings and late evenings are often the most productive. Check the MN DNR stocking reports before you go to see which lakes have been recently stocked. For access, look for public access points on lakes like Lake Auburn, or try smaller streams like the Crow River with permission from landowners where necessary. Remember, these are often smaller bodies of water, so stealth and light tackle are key. A simple setup with small spinners, worms, or PowerBait can be highly effective. Be sure to check the current regulations for bag limits and any specific restrictions on the waters you plan to fish.
