Rainbow Trout

While Fayette City isn't widely known for its trout fishing, determined anglers can find some opportunities for rainbow trout, particularly in the smaller, stocked streams that feed into the Monongahela River. These streams are typically stocked by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Spring is the prime time, immediately after stocking, but some trout may hold over into the summer months if water temperatures remain cool enough. Look for deeper pools, undercut banks, and areas with riffles and runs. Small spinners, spoons, and live bait like worms or mealworms are effective. A local tip: Check the PFBC stocking schedules online to find out when and where trout have been recently released. Access to these streams is generally good, with many having roadside access points. Remember to check the specific regulations for each stream, as some may have special restrictions or seasons. While the trout may not be huge, the challenge of finding and catching them in these smaller streams can be very rewarding.
