Rainbow Trout

If you're looking for some classic Rainbow Trout fishing in northeastern Washington, consider a trip to Cusick. The Pend Oreille River is the main draw here, offering beautiful scenery and opportunities to hook into some feisty rainbows. While the river holds trout year-round, the best fishing is typically in the spring and fall when water temperatures are cooler and the fish are more active. Early mornings and late evenings are prime times. Access can be found at several points along Highway 20, but be aware that some areas are private property. Check local regulations regarding bait restrictions, as some sections may be fly-fishing only. The rainbows here aren't typically trophy-sized, averaging 10-16 inches, but they are plentiful and provide excellent sport on light tackle. Watch for mayfly hatches – matching the hatch can significantly improve your success.
