Sheepshead
Looking to tangle with some sheepshead? Jupiter Island offers some fantastic opportunities, particularly around the many docks, bridges, and rocky structures that line the Intracoastal Waterway and nearby inlets. Sheepshead are structure-loving fish, and Jupiter Island has plenty. The best time to target them is during the cooler months, from late fall through early spring, when they congregate to spawn. Focus your efforts around areas with barnacle-covered pilings, as this is their primary food source. A fiddler crab or shrimp fished close to the structure is usually irresistible. For access, try the public docks around the Jupiter Inlet or the DuBois Park fishing pier. Be mindful of the strong currents, especially around the inlet, and use enough weight to keep your bait in the strike zone. The sheepshead in this area are known for their impressive size, so be prepared for a good fight!
