Sheepshead

Sheepshead, known for their distinctive teeth and striped bodies, can be a challenging but rewarding target near Central Falls, Rhode Island. Narragansett Bay offers some opportunities, though they aren't as abundant as other species. Focus your efforts around structures like bridge pilings, docks, and rocky outcroppings, as these fish are adept at picking off crustaceans and shellfish. The Warren and Barrington Rivers are good areas to explore. Late spring through early fall is the best time to target them, when the water is warmer. Sheepshead are notorious for their subtle bites, so use sensitive tackle and pay close attention to your line. Fiddler crabs are the bait of choice, but clams and mussels can also work. Local tip: Use a small, sharp hook and present your bait as naturally as possible. A Carolina rig or a jig head are effective presentations.
