While not a traditionally sought-after species, their presence in the Missouri River and its tributaries near Omaha is undeniable. Spring and early summer, when the river levels fluctuate due to snowmelt and rain, often concentrate these fish in backwaters and calmer areas. A key access point is the boat ramp at Levi Carter Park, offering direct access to the Missouri River. Be aware of strong currents and debris, especially after heavy rainfall. While angling for them directly is difficult, understanding their feeding habits can indirectly lead to success. They are filter feeders so chumming with finely ground particles may attract them to your area. Remember, these fish are easily startled, so stealth and minimal disturbance are crucial.
