The interconnected Chain of Lakes, including Lake Angelus, provides ample habitat. Summer and early fall are peak seasons, as the smallmouth are actively feeding and guarding their nests. Focus your efforts around rocky points, docks, and submerged weed beds. Casting crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or soft plastics that mimic crayfish can be highly effective. A particularly good tactic is to target areas with current created by the connecting channels between lakes. The smallmouth in Lake Angelus tend to be aggressive fighters, and you can find some quality sized fish. Remember to practice catch-and-release to help maintain the quality of this fishery. Consider using polarized sunglasses to spot submerged structure and fish holding areas.
