Lake Orion is a fantastic spot for smallmouth bass fishing, offering a diverse structure that these fish love. The lake features rocky points, submerged humps, and plenty of docks that provide excellent habitat. Targeting these areas with crankbaits, jigs, and tubes is a reliable strategy. Summer is arguably the best time to fish for smallmouth here, as they become more active in the warmer water. However, the pre-spawn period in late spring can also produce some trophy-sized fish. A public boat launch is available on the lake's south side, providing easy access. Keep an eye on the lake's weed growth, as it can become dense in certain areas during the summer months. The smallmouth in Lake Orion are known for their aggressive strikes and hard fighting ability, making for an exciting day on the water.
