Smallmouth Bass

While Marionville isn't necessarily known as a smallmouth bass mecca, dedicated anglers can find them in the James River and its tributaries. A key to success here is using natural-looking presentations. Crawfish imitations and small crankbaits that mimic local forage are often effective. Access to the river can be limited, so research public access points beforehand. Be aware of water levels, as the James can fluctuate rapidly after rainfall. The smallmouth in this area are known for their fight, so be prepared for a good battle on light to medium tackle.
