Smallmouth Bass
Smallmouth Bass fishing around Derby Line can be quite rewarding, especially if you target the rocky shorelines and deeper structures of Lake Memphremagog. This lake provides excellent habitat for smallmouth, with plenty of rocky shoals and drop-offs where they like to congregate. Summer and early fall are generally the best times to target smallmouth, as they become more active in warmer water. Focus on areas with current or wind, as this concentrates their food sources. A helpful local tip: try using drop-shot rigs or tube baits around submerged rock piles and points. You can access many of these areas by boat from the public launch on the western side of the lake. Be sure to check the Vermont Fish & Wildlife regulations for specific size and possession limits for smallmouth bass.
