Smallmouth Bass

Smallmouth Bass aren't as prevalent as other species near Sultan, Washington, but dedicated anglers can find them in the Skykomish River. Focus your efforts on the main river channel, particularly areas with rocky bottoms, current breaks, and submerged structure. Summer (June-August) is the prime time for smallmouth, as the water warms and they become more active. Try casting crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or tubes along the bottom. A boat is highly recommended for accessing the best smallmouth habitat in the Skykomish. Be cautious of strong currents and changing water levels. Public access points are available along the river, but some require a Discover Pass. A local tip: target areas near bridge pilings or large boulders, as these often hold smallmouth. The smallmouth in the Skykomish tend to be smaller in size compared to other regions, but they are aggressive fighters. Pay attention to water clarity; smallmouth prefer clearer water. Consider fishing during periods of low light, such as early morning or late evening, for increased success.
