Speckled Trout

If you're heading to Midway, Florida with Speckled Trout on your mind, you're in for a treat! This area provides access to some of the best saltwater trout fishing in the Panhandle, particularly in the Apalachicola Bay system. What makes this area special is the vast expanse of shallow grass flats that speckled trout love to ambush prey in. The cooler months, from October through April, are prime time. The trout move into the shallows to feed, and you'll find them congregating around oyster bars and creek mouths. For wading anglers, try accessing the flats along the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge coastline. Just be mindful of the tides, as extreme low tides can make navigation difficult. A local tip: many anglers swear by using popping corks with a soft plastic shrimp imitation to entice strikes. The speckled trout here are known for their aggressive strikes, so hold on tight!
