Speckled trout, a saltwater favorite, aren't found directly in Mound Bayou. You'll need to travel south to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to target these fish. Focus your efforts around areas like Biloxi, Ocean Springs, and the Pascagoula River delta. Spring and fall are generally the best times for speckled trout, as they move into shallower waters to feed. Look for grassy flats, oyster reefs, and structures near channels. Live shrimp under a popping cork is a classic and effective presentation. Also, artificial lures like soft plastics and topwater plugs can produce excellent results. A local tip: pay attention to tide movements, as speckled trout often congregate on the down-current side of structure. Check local regulations regarding size and bag limits before heading out.
