Spotted Bass

While Largemouth get most of the attention around Lake View, South Carolina, the Spotted Bass population in the Santee Cooper lakes (Marion and Moultrie) is quietly thriving, offering a unique fishing experience. Spotted Bass tend to prefer clearer water and rocky areas compared to their Largemouth cousins. Concentrate your efforts around points, humps, and rocky shorelines, particularly in the upper reaches of Lake Marion. These fish are aggressive and readily take a variety of lures, including crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs. A local tactic is to use a Carolina rig with a lizard or creature bait. Spotted Bass are most active in the spring and fall when water temperatures are moderate. While they might not reach the same trophy sizes as Largemouth, they fight hard and provide plenty of action. Access to the lakes is readily available through various boat ramps and marinas. Remember to check the local fishing regulations for creel and size limits, as they may differ from Largemouth Bass regulations.
