If you're looking for some exciting spotted bass action in the South Carolina Lowcountry, Walterboro offers some surprisingly good opportunities. While not as widely known as some other fisheries in the state, the Edisto River and its tributaries around Walterboro hold a healthy population of these hard-fighting fish. Focus your efforts on areas with submerged timber, rocky outcroppings, and sharp bends in the river. These spots provide the cover and ambush points that spotted bass love. Spring and fall are prime times, as the water temperatures are moderate and the fish are actively feeding. A local tip: try targeting areas near the Highway 17A bridge over the Edisto River – there's decent bank access and the structure around the bridge often holds fish.
