Spotted Seatrout
If you're looking for some exciting inshore action, the waters around Clearwater Beach offer excellent Spotted Seatrout fishing. These fish are plentiful in the grass flats, mangrove shorelines, and oyster bars of Clearwater Harbor and St. Joseph's Sound. Focus your efforts on areas with good tidal flow and plenty of structure. Seatrout are ambush predators, so they tend to hold near cover. The best time to target Seatrout is during the cooler months, from fall through spring. A local tip is to use a popping cork with a live shrimp or soft plastic lure. This technique allows you to cover a lot of water and attract attention from nearby fish. Another tip is to fish early in the morning or late in the evening, when Seatrout are most active. Access to these fishing grounds is readily available via numerous public boat ramps and kayak launches around Clearwater Beach. The Seatrout population in this area is generally healthy, with a good mix of sizes.
